The Writers’ Association of Macedonia (DPM) is opening the Competition for the traditional annual DPM awards for 2024, which include the following categories:
- “Stale Popov” Award for Prose Work
- “Aco Shopov” Award for Poetry Collection
- “Vancho Nikoleski” Award for a Book for Children and Young People
- “Dimitar Mitrev” Award for a Book of Criticism and Essays
- “Most” Award for a Book Written in One of the Languages of the Nationalities
The competition is open to authors who are active members of DPM or their publishers (with the author’s consent). The deadline for registration is December 23, 2024, with four copies of the work to be submitted either in person (Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM) at ul. Maksim Gorki 18, Skopje, or by mail. It is also recommended to send an e-version (PDF/DOC file) of the work to the society’s email: drustvonapisatelimk@gmail.com.
The DPM highlights its intercultural dimension as a significant asset, which is why special attention is given to the “Most” Award.
- “Most” Award: Works published bilingually (in the original and Macedonian), or works that are partially translated into Macedonian for this competition, are eligible. This includes prose, poetry, books for children and young people, and books of literary criticism and essays. In order to compete, four copies of the original work must be submitted, along with four copies of the translation into Macedonian (if the work has not been published bilingually). The translated excerpt should be at least 20 pages for prose works, 10 poems for poetry collections, or at least 25% of the book for children’s literature.
Additionally, the DPM Board of Directors has decided to subsidize half of the translation fee for works submitted to the “Most” competition, covering translation costs at agreed-upon prices. This initiative aims to encourage authors to submit their works for the “Most” Award and ensure a successful competition.
The winners of the 2024 DPM Annual Awards will be announced at a press conference in February 2025, with the official award ceremony taking place on February 13, the founding day of the DPM.
For reference, the winners of the 2023 DPM Annual Awards were:
