Strategy with an action plan for the development of the culture of the City of Skopje for 2021-30

The Council of the City of Skopje at the 74th session held on 22.09.2021 adopted the “Strategy with the action plan for the development of the culture of the City of Skopje for the period 2021 – 2030”.

The Strategy was developed by an expert team led by “Balkan Development Solutions BDS Skopje” through a participatory approach, in cooperation with the team of Skopje 2028 and with the participation of representatives of the city of Skopje, the city’s municipalities, cultural institutions, representatives of the non-institutional cultural sector and invited experts.

The strategy contains the concept of “solidarity decentralized development” in and through culture, which is based on the principles of solidarity, equality, inclusiveness, participation, democratization, access, freedom of expression, advancement of the professional working conditions and development of the creative and socio-economic potentials through culture.

As a document in which the development of the culture of the city is planned in 10 years, this Strategy is one of the key documents for the development of Skopje’s candidacy for the European Capital of Culture, which should act in synchronization with the strategic directions for the development of the culture in the city, and at the same time to function as one of the strategic goals with program measures within the Strategy.

On 27.11.2021 in the Youth Cultural Center the “Strategy for development of the culture in the City of Skopje for 2021-2030” and the current and following activities of the team of the “SKOPJE 2028 – candidate for European Capital of Culture” were presented in front of the representatives of the Ministry of Culture, managers and representatives of national and local cultural institutions and representatives of the non-institutional cultural sector. The Minister of Culture Irena Stefoska and the Director of the Directorate for Protection of Cultural Heritage Aco Kostov were present at the event.

The “Strategy for development of the culture in the City of Skopje for 2021-2030” was also presented to the members of the Coordination Body “Skopje 2028 – candidate for European Capital of Culture” at a meeting held in the big hall of the Council of the City of Skopje on 3.11.2021.
