In celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Macedonian National Theater (MNT), the premiere of People’s Representative by Branislav Nušić will be held on January 25 at 8 p.m. This iconic comedy, adapted and directed by the distinguished Egon Savin, will once again grace the MNT stage.
Savin, a director with a profound legacy at the MNT, returns for his third directorial production at the theater. Known for his earlier works Crime and Punishment (1994) and Lies and Parallax (1996), Savin brings his masterful touch to Nušić’s timeless satire, showcasing the director’s deep understanding of the material.
The cast features a talented ensemble, including Aleksandar Mikić, Darja Rizova, Toni Mihajlovski, Jordan Simonov, and Tanja Kočovska, who promise to bring fresh energy to this beloved classic. People’s Representative has a rich history at MNT, with its first production debuting on May 8, 1945, directed by Todor Nikolovski. A second production, directed by Dimitrie Osmanli, ran from 1993 to 2008, totaling an impressive 188 performances.
For this new production, the set design is by Vesna Popović, costumes by Roza Trajčeska-Ristovska, and the translation by Zagorka Pop-Antoska Andovska. Tomislav Osmanli handled the dialect adaptation, while Savin himself curated the music. Šenaj Mandak serves as the assistant director.
The first rerun is scheduled for January 30, and due to overwhelming demand, tickets for both the premiere and the first rerun are already sold out. Don’t miss this milestone performance that celebrates the rich legacy of both the play and the Macedonian National Theater.
