“Bach Week in Skopje: A Celebration of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Genius with Dino Imeri at KIC Skopje

From today until December 7, 2024, the Bach Week will take place in Skopje at various locations. This event, in cooperation with the German Embassy and supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, will feature a series of concerts, music workshops for children, and lectures dedicated to Johann Sebastian Bach. These events will explore the life, philosophy, and music of the great composer, whose work has left an indelible mark on the world.

One of the central events of Bach Week is a performance of Bach’s renowned Goldberg Variations on December 4 (Wednesday) at 8:00 PM at the Cultural and Information Center (Salon 19,19). The concert, titled The Bach Code, will be performed by distinguished Macedonian pianist Dino Imeri. The event is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Macedonia, and entry to the concert is free.

The Goldberg Variations are considered one of Bach’s most brilliant works, admired for their architectural complexity and beauty. Comprising 30 variations and an ornamented Aria, the piece is a masterwork of harmony, counterpoint, and virtuosity. The piece’s structure and ingenuity have earned it the admiration of musicians and listeners alike, with Canadian pianist Glenn Gould’s 1955 recording playing a significant role in shaping how the Goldberg Variations are perceived today.

Dino Imeri, a renowned pianist born in 1990, is one of Macedonia’s most distinguished musicians. He has performed on prestigious international stages and is known for his captivating artistry, which has earned him praise from critics, including French critics who dubbed him “a magician of the piano.” Imeri has performed with renowned orchestras such as the Strasbourg Philharmonic and the Sofia Philharmonic and has received numerous accolades, including the Virtuosi award for young musical artists and the St. Mother Teresa award for humanity. In addition to his performances, Imeri is also a composer and educator, having taught at the Faculty of Music in Skopje since 2018.
