🗓️ Date: February 18 – March 2
📍 Venue: Cultural and Information Center, Skopje
Step into the world of the adult performer’s body through the lens of Zarko Stojchevski and the vision of Iskra Šukarova in the exhibition “Eternal Bodies”. This powerful project delves into the often overlooked narratives surrounding aging, performance, and the cultural assumptions that shape our views on the adult body in the arts.
Through a series of striking photographs, the project challenges the dominant idea that old age marks the end of active life, offering a fresh perspective that celebrates the resilience and beauty of the adult body in performance. It explores the political dimension of the body, reflecting on how age, physical endurance, and societal expectations impact the careers of cultural workers, particularly ballet dancers.
🎬 The Concept:
The project emerged from the collaboration between choreographer Iskra Šukarova and photographer Zarko Stojchevski, alongside five distinguished ballet artists, all with different career and life experiences, having worked with the Macedonian National Theater and Macedonian Opera and Ballet. Together, they challenge the marginalization of the adult body in the world of performing arts.
🔍 Key Focus:
– Addressing the intersection of age, artistic labor, and societal codes
– Reframing the adult body beyond the constraints of physicality and appearance
– Advocating for the freedom of adult bodies from the societal and cultural pathologies of marginalization
