Mila Dobrevska’s solo exhibition, titled “Escapism: Memory and Identity”, opened tonight at the National Gallery, in the “Mala Stanica” building.
The exhibition delves into the human desire for liberation, with vivid and emotionally charged works that draw from Macedonian heritage and modern introspection. It serves as a bridge between the past and the present, exploring the evolving role of traditions in shaping modern identity.
Curator Stefan Aleksandar Jovanovski reflects on the exhibition’s central themes: How do traditions, which were once a refuge, become part of our modern identity? What do rituals and art represent in the context of contemporary human “enthusiasms”? These questions are just a few of the enigmatic aspects explored in this powerful exhibition.
